Hurricane Harvey began its siege against the Texas coast on Friday, August 25th, with winds up to 135 miles per hour. Officially classified as a category four hurricane, Harvey hit some of the most populated cities in Texas including Corpus Cristi, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.
The torrential rain has caused major damage with many Texans forced to flee their homes in the wake of the storm. Thousands of people are now homeless due to flooding.
APPEAL FROM BILL TERRY, NATIONAL DRUSA COORDINATOR
The assessment process is underway in Texas as the Texas Latin Conference anxiously awaits the arrival of Disaster Relief USA. Webster, Texas is a small suburb located on the southeast side of Houston. It is home to Oasis of Hope PHC, a thriving congregation pastored by Jaime and Mary Alice Trevino.
Two areas that were hit hard by Harvey are Dickinson and League City, towns further southeast of Houston and closer to the Bay. DRUSA will base its feeding operations at Oasis of Hope and focus its initial efforts on providing hot meals for residents, emergency works, rescuers and volunteers in Webster, Dickinson and the League City area.
Disaster Relief USA (DRUSA) has received numerous phone calls, text messages and emails from the IPHC family inquiring how people can help. This is going to be a long disaster relief and recovery process. First and foremost, the Texas Latin Conference in association with DRUSA, need your prayers for wisdom to establish short and long-term goals for this deployment. Secondly, this effort will be costly. Your financial support will be crucial. It is because of your gifts that we are able to serve and support those who have been affected.
If you would like to contribute to the relief process, you can give in one of three ways:
You can make your check payable to Cornerstone Conference (earmarked “Texas Relief”) and send it to:
